Wojciech Kuczok and Szczepan Twardoch are prominent writers of Silesian origins. Their opuses, in particular Kuczok’s Gnój and Twardoch’s Drach occupy prized place in modern Polish literature. Both authors apply native dialect in their literary works. Regarding the subject of their works and the use of linguistic materiał it is impossible to separate the conclusions from the analysis from the perennial discussions about the culture and Silesian language. In the recent years, a turn towards interdisciplinary research in which proper names are presentedas an interpretation of reality and a mirror of historical, political, social and cultural processes has been observed in onomastics. Names can reflect a popular vision of the world presenting its anthropocentric conceptualization reconstructed on the basis of knowledge, beliefs, valuation systems and cultural experiences of people. Social and cultural factors shape the linguistic perception of colour. At the same time, colour terms co-create the linguistic image of the world, which allows us to interpret reality and profile our statements and beliefs. This paper presents six basic colour terms: white, black, red, green, yellow, and blue (both as adjectives and as nouns) in the five different linguistic images of the world of the following languages: English, French, Italian, Polish, and Japanese. This chapter presents an exploratory analysis of discursive strategies through which Europe and Europeans are represented, focusing on how their images are profiled in the texts of the British conservative newspaper Daily Telegraph, a quality newspaper ranked as one of the three most widely read in the UK throughout the 2000s. The subject of the analysis of this article are the word combinations which in their composition include a component in the form o f the name of selected professions and those which occur in available German dictionaries. The aim of the article is to reconstruct the linguistic image established in them and to compare whether the analysed phraseologies and proverbs are also used in the contemporary language and whether the former linguistic image of the analysed professions has perhaps changed.
